A few things about Payden....

He loves to crawl into any drawer or box shaped thing. If he turns his head he thinks you can't see him. He finds these tight spaces relaxing....

This is his first cheesy smile for the camera smile! He just started smiling on que....but you have to hurry because what he really wants is the camera.

He likes tight spaces (not only drawers and boxes) and always gets in between the pedals of my exercise machine to play.

He loves it when grandpa cuts up a hotdog and gives him some mustard to dip it in...one of his favorite foods.

He is trying to learn how to ride on his toys. So far he can get around on them....sort of, when he can get on them right.

Ahhhh, great weather yesterday and Payden loves it!! He loves to be outside walking around, playing in the dirt (yes, dirt) and rocks. He had been outside most of the day. After bath and jammies he wanted out again and was not very happy when it was time to stay in. I love being able to take him outside now that he walks around and plays!

Kasey's graduation 2006

I've been trying to think of a post for the last few days but my emotions are still too raw. It still seems unreal and everyday I wake up with the thought "this did not happen". I hear about people passing and the feeling of celebration along with the sadness but truthfully, I don't feel the celebration. There has been laughter and fun when I was with my family looking at pictures and reliving old times but mostly I feel empty and the pain is unreal. I know he is good, I know he is in paradise and I am happy and at peace with this, for him. I hope to get to a place where I'm more happy and at peace for me.... .....someday.....I take comfort in the fact that even the Lord who knows everything perfectly still grieved with Martha and Mary when Lazarus died. He loves us so much that he still grieves when we grieve. I guess the feeling of celebration will come much later for me....much later, when I see him again.

To put it mildly saying goodbye sucks. I dread it, it never gets easier and my emotions always overcome me. Kasey was here for 2 weeks and it was awesome! We went to see the first of the sixth Harry Potter and went to dinner. Seeing Harry Potter with him is pretty special to me because the whole craze started with Kasey when he was in 5th grade. He grew up with it. We all avidly read the books as they would come out, I had to by more then one copy to go around the family! So it's pretty sentimental to me to have him here and share that with him. He should be home again in July and hopefully just in time for the final installment that we can see together too!

We were able to get together for 2 family dinners and that means so much to me, thanks mom & dad!!

We also got to meet and get to know Tabatha, Kasey's girlfriend. She is a really nice girl and we like her a lot, we even got her into our football spirit, lol. We look forward to spending more time with her. I'm sure she is hoping the next few months go by fast as much as we are!! We love Kasey so much and are so grateful he is apart of our family and pray he returns home again safely. I have to mention how grateful we are for all the support he receives also. When we are at the airport and he is in his uniform people are so wonderful to him! It makes my heart swell with joy to see how appreciated he is for all he does for our country! Thank you to my family and everyone !

We were blessed to be able to meet at one of our favorite places for dinner with Josh, Mandy & Kayden while they were here for Christmas. We love being able to catch up with them and spend some time seeing Kayden and all the new things he is doing. He was a little leary of getting close to me but he inched his way over for a minute! He is doing so well and we could not be happier!

Happy Veteran's Day

Serving our country is no stranger to our family. My grandfather served in WWII, my father in Veitnam, an Uncle who gave his life in Vietnam, and cousins in Iraq. Now my son in Afghanistan.

When my boys were younger I received a blessing that talked about how proud of my country I would one day be. A few years later a thought came to me that one or more of my boys would serve our country, hence the reason for my strong feelings of love for our country.

Right now my son is putting his life on the line for our freedoms as many other sons have and are doing. Kasey talked of joining the army soon after high school. Needless to say I was not all for it. As time went on I saw that it was not a bad direction for him to go in. I felt peace knowing that he would be making a difference and in turn bettering his life and the Lord would be looking after him.

Basic was amazing. I saw my boy turn into a man. Then it was on to Germany, what an adventure. I was excited for him to see places he might otherwise never see. Then the orders for Afghanistan came....up until this time I followed the news and events there with a watchful eye and listened to all the news coming out of there. Now my son was there. I could no longer listen to any news as it struck fear into my heart. My precious son is in the middle of this, where did that peace I had felt go?? What I have learned from this is just how important prayer is. To pray for our soldiers, not only my son but every family who's sons are serving. I pray for them to have saftey, wisdom and love for one another and the people they are helping. I give thanks that because of their service we enjoy the freedoms we have. I have to say, it's been so much harder then I could have ever anticipated but I'm blessed to be able to be in almost constant contact with him and he assures me that everything is alright...in return I'm able to assure him how much we love him, miss him and are so very proud of him. I could have included many more pictures of him but these two have some meaning to me. The first shows the sacrafice under not such great conditions. The second shows comradery. These soldiers have each other's backs and build incredible bonds.

Yes, even though family have served our country in years past and present my son has brought a whole new meaning to Veteran's Day for me. May all our soldiers past and present feel our gratitued and thanks, without them our country would not be the great country it is!

Kasey, we love you and look forward to your coming home safe and sound!

National Adoption Month

As I sit and wonder what words to write about how I feel about adoption and National Adoption Month my heart is so full the words won't come easy. Our family has been blessed in so many ways by the selflessness and pure love adoption brings. Over a year ago Meghan placed Kayden into the loving arms of a wonderful father and mother who would raise and love her son. They also prove everyday to be her best friends, they are two of her strongest cheerleaders in life and are always there for her. It was one of the most amazing, emotional, heart wrenching and love filled experience our family has ever been through. When I read Meghan's thoughts as she recounts that day I'm touched beyond words. I testify that what she says is true. She was encircled by angels and the arms of Our Father in Heaven as she did as she felt best for her son she loves so much. In this month of Adoption Awarness it is my hope that many more families will be blessed by this great sacrifice of love. Meghan has built a great many wonderful relationships and sisterhood with many beautiful young women who have been in this same situation. I'm am so eternally grateful that Meghan recognized the answers to her prayers and has such a strong faith in Our Father in Heaven and in His Son, Jesus Christ. I know that she will be blessed beyond mesure throughout her life, and I'm proud to say that this amazing and strong young woman is my daughter. The road ahead is still long, some days can be tough, the pain and emotion can bring you to your knees, but I can say without a doubt, the good far outweighs the bad and the Lord is still right beside us, and Kayden is one of the happiest little guys around!

The third time we we have seen him off to the airport to go back to the army, by far the worst and most emotional...I barley made it through this picture before I broke down in sobs, uncontrolable sobs....

Kasey's dad and his little brother Hunter. I know it meant so much to him that they were able to be there to see him off. The day before he left they all went fishing. Kasey said it meant the world to him that they were able to go do that and spend the time together.

The 2 weeks Kasey was here flew by as time always does. Now we just pray the time will go by quickly until Kasey returns to us again safely...I love you Kasey and I'm so very proud of you and the job you are doing!

Josey's graduation from Morgan High was Friday night. We thought he would graduate from Layton High (where he attended most his high school years) but the last of December he moved back up to his mom's house. The class of 2010 graduating from Morgan High was a fraction of the class from Layton High, we thought this meant a shorter ceremony, no such luck. They just added 3x as many speakers...and talk about a difference between one school to another. I always thought Layton took it to seriously, they would not even let them throw their caps up in the air after it was over, totally ridiculous. On the other hand Morgan took their graduation...well...as a joke kind of. Disorganized, most the students had bedazzled their caps and gowns and wore sun glasses. I know they were trying to be cute but I thought they went to far the other direction. During a particularly weird skit (yes, a skit about a ghost named "Bouncing Betty") I was thinking "this is THE weirdest graduation I have ever been to" just as the person behind me said "this is...the most lighthearted graduation I have seen", she was being kind by calling it lighthearted, I guess that was a good way to look at it. Me, I think it was weird and at times a little uncomfortable. But Josey is through with High School and we are very proud of him for seeing it through!

I'm going to miss this...

The first night at the airport Payden wanted nothing to do with anybody but mommy or daddy...the next day he warmed up to Kasey and showed him some of his cute personality...

I was hoping to get more family shots, luckily Wendy was there taking photos too, so many friends showed up it was a yard full of people all happy to see Kasey and have him home for a visit.

On this Mother's Day...

A few thoughts have been swimming around in my head so I thought I would take a stab at blogging them...mine is usually a picture (mostly) blog. On this Mother's Day I have felt impressed to share a few thoughts on a couple of mother's that are on my mind a lot this week.

The first one is Mandy. She is often the unsung hero in our story. She is so soft spoken and reserved, so spiritual and unassuming sometimes I think "did you make sure Mandy knows how much you love and appreciate her?". Most recently she moved away from a family that she is very close to and fairly large. And yet when she visits she makes sure to include some time for us. She does not have to do this, it would be very understandable given how much she misses the family she has never lived apart from. Mandy is one the best examples of selflessness that I can think of. A memory that I think of often is after Kayden was born. Mandy and I were in the nursery trying to get Kayden to eat to get his blood sugar up. I looked at her and said "arent you so excited?" I could see the trepidation and pain on her face as she expressed to me how hard it was to be excited knowing the pain Meghan was going through. At that moment in perfect clarity a scripture popped into my mind and has stayed with me ever since, "and are willing to bear one another's burdens, that they may be light; Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea and comfort those that stand in need of comfort". Even in Mandy's extreme joy she put Meghan's feelings of mourning first. What greater attribute could a mother have? I can truly say, Mandy's joy was our joy, our pain was Mandy's pain. What a wonderful compassionate woman. As a mother myself there is no greater thing on this earth then when other's love your children in this way. Mandy, we love and cherish you with all our heart.

The second mom I would like to talk about is mine. I remember a few years ago I said to her "all this is almost over, they are grown and I am done". She smiled and said "Really, you think so?", (actually I believe she chuckled a little). She informed me the worry never lessens, the concern and love only grows and extends to grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Boy was she right! When I think about it, she has been right about many things. My life has not been without many struggles that in turn put many stuggles in my mom's life. She has bore them all, she has been a great example to me of unconditional love that as a mother I hope I have shown my children. Happy Mother's day mom, your love and encouragment have always been unwavering.

So many emotions, how to begin....

I'm grateful for this day of celebration, a recognition of the most selfless act in such a selfish world. In a world where abortion is so often the first choice in a situation like yours, before you knew who your baby was you loved your baby more...before you knew the mother who's arms you would place your child in you loved her more...Your courage is more than inspiring, more than amazing, there are no words. It was never a matter of material things or amount of love for you, just the best possible start in your child's life you could give him. I could only lead you and guide you in your decision making but you had to make it, you had to be the one to actually do it...you are a hero with many more missions here on this earth. This honor is yours. Your a very special Birth Mother, your future is so bright and you have so much to offer!

Tonight we went to dinner with Mandy & Kayden at The Old Spaghetti Factory. Mandy gave Kayden a taste of the spaghetti sauce and the pictures say it all...at first he got the most sour face, it was too funny. When she tried to give him more so we could get a picture of it he would have none of it. This is one of our favorite places to eat...maybe he will like it more when he gets older (lol) It was so much fun to see them and Kayden is getting SO BIG! He was really good through the whole dinner, by the time we left he was pretty tired. It's so much fun to spend time with them and we can't wait until the next visit...

I have been spending a lot of time reflecting this week as Josh and Mandy prepare to make their move. It's been over a year since they came into our lives and every second has been for the better. I've been a little surprised over how weepy I have felt, even knowing that we will be seeing them soon, having family move a few states away is a little sad. I want them to know that it's not only little Kayden that some tears of sadness are shed, but because I have grown to love them so very much too! They have taught us so much and are such loving and giving people. The special connection I feel towards them could never be expressed by words alone, I'm so very grateful they came into our lives and I wish them much love on their new journey.

3 months old!

I can't believe it's been 3 months since Payden was born. He is starting to hit some really cute stages. He tries so hard to talk to you, he smiles a lot and even tries to laugh. He is trying to grab at the toys on his bouncer, you can see the little wheels spinning in his head as he is trying to figure how to get his hand to the toy he really wants to grab. He is also kicking his legs like crazy, he uses them to express how he is feeling, really fast means he is getting frustrated. The drool has started, he was running a low grade fever so I think the teething has begun!

We had Payden overnight for the first time last week...he is such a good baby. He sleeps through the night getting up about 6 or 7, after he eats he is in such a good mood. He can get pretty loud when he is talking to you...I look forward to many many more sleepover's at Grandma's house, we love it!

I can't believe how fast time goes by....Payden is now cooing and smiling at us...he tries so hard to talk to us. He LOVES his tongue, he is very expresive with it and will try so hard to copy what you are doing with yours...I have so much fun getting him to smile and copy what I'm doing with my tongue!!

Maggie's good friend from Oregon came to visit her. They came over to our house Sunday and cooked us the most delicious dinner! It was really appreciated and fun. Josh, Mandy and Kayden came over for a visit, we had a great time. We are always so excited to see Kayden and how well he is doing. He has so much personality and is so sweet. Jeff knows how to treat the ladies....every year he gets me, Kori and Meghan flowers for Valentine's Day and they get prettier and prettier...these are mine and Meghan's. As an added bonus I got a Barnes & Noble card (a very favorite store of mine, I'd live there if I could). I love fresh flowers, if I had the money my house would always be loaded with them! We are very blessed to have Jeff as the man in our life!

I really love my new floor. There are still some finishing touches to do, like the tile on the backsplash and outlet covers, some finish work around the bottom of the cupboards but I'm really happy with the way its turning out. A big thanks to Eric, Tyler and Jeff's dad for helping us get this floor in, who knew it was not nearly as easy as they tell you at home depot!! Looking back at the hole in my floor when we first started doing this amazes me. It's been a long haul (with still more to finish), quiting your job like I did in the middle was not much help but it has been well worth it.

It's true...when Maggie and Tyler let us babysit Payden we call who gets him first, after one of us has had him for awhile we do the "well you have all ready held him for a long time, it's my turn" Grandpa was convinced he could get him to smile.

While we were watching Payden, Maggie brought his bath time stuff to us so we could give him a bath, I was going to take many pictures. I had to run to the store for some groceries first. When I got home...Payden was already bathed! Grandpa had given him a bath, got him ready for bed and rigged up a ghetto (lol) mobile for him by stringing a tie from our fan and attatching a toy to the bottom...I have to say it was one of the cutest things I have seen and it was worth it to walk into this scene...both boys tuckered out from their adventure...Jeff is an awesome grandpa.

We can't believe how big Kayden is!! At just over 4 months he weighs 14.5 lbs and is gaining inches in height. He is such a sweet baby, we love his ever changing moods. I have been dying to smooch away on his big cheeks everytime I see his pictures, we are so grateful to have that opportunity!

We are so grateful at this time of year to be able to spend time with loved ones. There could not be a better Christmas gift in this world then to spend time with 2 beautiful, happy, healthy grandchildren. I love them both so much and to have them both for a visit is beyond any words of happiness. We have been blessed beyond messure by the great love of Josh and Mandy. We are also so blessed by the healthy birth of Payden and the joy his presence brings to us. We wish every one a very Merry Christmas and pray that it is filled with much love....

Payden arrived at 10:30am at 7lbs 2oz, 201/2 inches long. My guess was off on this one, I guessed 6lbs 11oz because he was not due until Jan 4th. I think the Doc was wrong on this one though, he is a full term healthy baby, eating well with tons and tons of long dark hair. Will post pics soon. Maggie did a great job and is doing well.

Kasey should be in Germany now!! I talked to him last night as he was boarding the plane from Chicago. I'm anxious to hear from him and make sure he is ok, I know he will be but the fact that he is so far away hit me harder then I thought it would. It was an extremely hard goodbye, even though I know he is doing something very great. He is stationed at Vilseck in Germany. From what I can gather it is inside the city of Bavaria (which I find kinda funny since one of my favorite movies is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so I hear the way they say it in the movie when I think of "Bavaria" lol, I know I'm weird like that) as soon as I get a complete address I will post it, I hope to talk to him today but it was a long trip so I'm sure he is very tired.

Kayden is starting so many new milestones. I have to say, my finger tips are killing me! It took me almost 3 hours to make her straps out of the sash of her dress. I had no idea what I was doing I just tried to go with the picture in my mind. They turned out pretty good, at least my unskilled stitches are on the inside. This was the perfect chance for Meghan to wear the necklace Josh's mom gave to her. It looks perfect with the dress!

There is a new series about this subject that I have not caught yet called "Lie to Me" based on this very thing. Josey played his first game Wednesday night after being out 3 games injured, and I was not able to go because of a bad head cold...wouldn't you know it. They had a great game and finally won, 42-7. I'm so excited for the next game, its the homecoming game against Clearfield! Go Josey....

Nothing makes me happier then to see how well Kayden is thriving and so loved!! He is getting so big and growing all the time. We went to dinner with Josh and Mandy on monday night and as always we stayed until they were going to lock the doors for closing!! For anybody local the game was on KJAZZ last night. It was a heartbreaker, Layton lost to Jordan. Josey was hurt in the last of the first quarter and tore some tenden's in his ankle. He is pretty dissapointed, looks like he will be out for up to 6 weeks. Not a fun thing to happen when your in your last year! But we are glad it was not worse and he will be back to finish out the season.
